The Exquisite Life residential space, designed by Jung Yuan Hou, stands out with its unique features and strengths. The TV wall made of metalwork and the sofa wall with a timber grille create a sense of high ceilings while visually connecting the different spaces. This design choice maintains the individual characteristics of each area while promoting a cohesive atmosphere. The open multi-functional study not only fulfills the client's needs but also adds a touch of robustness and comfort to the modern home.
Utilizing dark brown timber and a gray-white color tone, the design team achieved a proportional consistency that perfectly suits the young couple's modern living style. The combination of multiple materials and decorations creates an interplay of light, shadow, and layers, resulting in a spacious and bright ambiance. The concealed windows in the living room ensure stylistic symmetry, natural lighting, and ventilation. The ceiling extends to connect the dining area with the open kitchen and island benchtop, facilitating social interactions among family members. The bedrooms integrate materials, colors, and dimensions to produce a spacious and high-quality residence.
The Exquisite Life design embodies keywords such as exquisite residence, influx of light and shadow, modern minimalism, relaxation styling, and a residence of warmth. It was brought to life by designer Jung-Yuan Hou and his team, who meticulously considered the layout of the entrance, kitchen, dining area, living room, and study. By converting the original three-room layout into a two-room plus open study, they visually liberated the space and created partial visual transparency with the grille, connecting different areas while maintaining their individual characteristics.
The project took place in Taipei, Taiwan, starting in July 2017 and finishing in September 2017. Extensive research underpinned the design, with a focus on using dark brown timber, black, grey, and white color tones to shape a modern, exquisite residence. The combination of robust metalwork and warm timber materials creates a relaxing resort-style interior. The open multi-purpose study adds a cultural and bright spatial aura, evident in the entrance and viewing wall.
The design team faced several challenges during the project. They had to find the right proportion to achieve an independent functional layout while ensuring a flowing circulation and satisfying the living requirements within the limited area footage. Additionally, they carefully selected materials and colors to achieve consistency throughout the design.
The Exquisite Life design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award honors well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world, providing fulfillment and positive feelings.
